Getting probate

If the value of an individual's estate is more than £15,000 or if they owned a property, the probate registry will need to issue a grant of probate or letters of administration.

This document gives authority to the executors or next of kin to deal with the estate, which our Staffordshire based wills and probate solicitors can help you achieve.

If there is a will, they will issue a grant of probate and if there is no will, they will issue letters of administration. The application sets out the value of the estate and calculates the likely inheritance tax liability.

Our specialist wills and probate solicitors in Lichfield and Cannock can value the estate, search the national wills database to see if there is a valid will, and prepare all the paperwork to make the application to the probate registry on your behalf. Making the application though a solicitor removes the requirement for you to attend a personal interview at the probate registry.

Where an estate comprises of substantial assets, such as property and investments, there can be a number of pitfalls for the inexperienced executor and it is advisable to seek professional advice. Our expert wills and probate lawyers advise and support families throughout Staffordshire.
